The Minister for Education, Honourable Haruna Iddrisu, has proposed that Colleges of Education affiliate with established universities to offer undergraduate degree programs. According to the Minister, this strategic initiative will enhance access to higher education for teacher trainees and help overcome geographical and logistical barriers to learning.

He made this statement during the inauguration ceremony of newly constituted governing councils for ten Colleges of Education. The institutions include Dambai, Akatsi, St. Francis, Fosu, Our Lady of Apostles, Holy Child, Kibi, Presbyterian Women’s, SDA, and St. Louis Colleges of Education.

Hon. Iddrisu highlighted that this affiliation model is aimed at strengthening the quality of teacher training and expanding flexible academic pathways for aspiring educators. The initiative, he added, reflects the Ministry’s broader commitment to transforming the educational landscape and equipping future teachers with the tools they need to succeed.
