A key highlight of the discussion was the ongoing security crisis in the Sahel and broader West Africa.

President Mahama welcomed the Secretary-Generalβs recognition of Ghanaβs leadership role within ECOWAS and the African Union, particularly in efforts to forge collective regional responses to instability and terrorism threats.

βI reaffirmed Ghanaβs commitment to collective, regional solutions,β Mahama noted, as he reiterated the countryβs dedication to promoting peace and security across the sub-region.

President Mahama also emphasized Ghanaβs steadfast support for multilateralism and called for reforms within the United Nations system.
βThere is a pressing need to further democratise the UN to enhance its representativeness and effectiveness,β he stated.
Touching on Ghanaβs economic rebound, Mahama provided updates on the countryβs ongoing debt restructuring process, highlighting efforts aimed at securing long-term fiscal stability.
