I’ll share a little secret with you today. There are several reasons why I wake up at 5 am every day of the week, and even on weekends. But one of the main reasons is to motivate the people around me. It’s hard to ask others to work hard and put in extra effort when I’m not doing that myself.
To be a leader, you can’t just tell others what to do. You must lead by example and show them what to do. You can influence people by telling them something and explaining why it’s important, but to have an even greater impact, you should show them that you believe in what you’re asking them to do by doing it yourself. People learn about your character, work ethic, integrity, and determination to improve by watching what you do and how you do it. It’s up to you to set a good example for others, no matter where you find yourself. Even if you’re not the head of your company or team at work, church, or school, you’ll be respected as someone whose actions match their words. Remember that while our words matter, our actions matter far more.
