Hon. Dr. Osei Yaw Adutwum, a leading contender for the NPP’s 2028 presidential flagbearer slot, has declared his commitment to eliminating poverty in Ghana as the central motivation behind his presidential ambition.

Dr. Adutwum has pledged to lead Ghana out of poverty by adopting a development model similar to that of China, which transformed itself from an impoverished nation into a global economic powerhouse capable of competing with the United States.

According to him, this transformation will be driven primarily through the implementation of sound educational policies and strategic national planning.

Speaking at a symposium organized by the Ashanti Youth Association (AYA) last Friday at the Golden Bean Hotel in Kumasi, the former Minister of Education emphasized the urgent need to address poverty in Ghana.

“Let’s understand that this is not normal,” he said. “If this level of poverty had affected Western nations, they would have found a way out long ago.”

Dr. Adutwum acknowledged the efforts of past leaders but expressed concern over the persistence of poverty in the country. He stressed that poverty alleviation is not only possible but necessary, and cited China’s rise from poverty as a clear example of what determined leadership and effective policy can achieve.

“My goal is to make a difference that improves the lives of others,” he affirmed.
