Ghana’s Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, has lauded Ghana International School (GIS) for its outstanding contribution to education in the country, as the prestigious institution marked its 70th anniversary.

In a message shared on his official Facebook page, the Minister reflected on the school’s legacy and its impact on national development.

Representing President John Dramani Mahama at the grand anniversary celebration, Hon. Iddrisu described the occasion as an honour and highlighted GIS as a “beacon of educational excellence” since its founding in 1955.
“Since 1955, Ghana International School has stood as a beacon of educational excellence, producing doctors, engineers, entrepreneurs, diplomats, and leaders who have contributed significantly to Ghana’s progress and global society,” the Minister stated.

He praised the school’s commitment to a holistic approach to education, emphasizing its role in nurturing not only academic excellence but also character, leadership, and global citizenship.
Hon. Iddrisu acknowledged GIS as a model institution that aligns closely with the government’s vision for national education reform.
“As Minister of Education, I have witnessed firsthand how institutions like Ghana International School set the standard for educational excellence in our country. Your commitment to holistic education… aligns perfectly with our national education goals,” he said.
He further noted that GIS demonstrates how Ghanaian educational institutions can maintain international competitiveness while remaining grounded in Ghanaian values.
The 70th anniversary celebration brought together alumni, educators, dignitaries, and students to commemorate the school’s legacy and its continuing role in shaping Ghana’s future leaders.
