The government has unveiled plans to allocate 50,000 fully funded digital training slots to persons with disabilities (PWDs) under the One Million Coders Programme next year.

The initiative was announced by the Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon. Samuel Nartey George (MP), during the 2025 International Day of Persons with Disabilities celebration.

Hon. George reaffirmed government’s commitment to promoting digital inclusion and ensuring that every citizen regardless of physical ability has equal access to the opportunities presented by emerging technologies.

He noted that empowering PWDs with digital skills is essential to bridging societal gaps and creating pathways to economic participation.

The Minister highlighted ongoing measures to enhance accessibility across government digital platforms, as well as strengthened collaboration with the National Communications Authority (NCA), private sector partners and the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection.

These efforts, he said, aim to improve affordability, expand inclusive communication services and create a more supportive digital ecosystem for vulnerable groups.

He underscored that technology should serve as “a bridge to opportunity,” urging government agencies, industry players and development partners to work together to build a more inclusive digital future.

The announcement was welcomed by participants at the event, who described the initiative as a significant step toward ensuring equitable access to digital skills and opportunities nationwide.
