The Ministry of Education has announced plans to host Ghana’s first-ever National Conference on Artificial Intelligence (AI), scheduled for November 2025. The groundbreaking event aims to explore the opportunities, challenges, and strategic implications of AI for Ghana’s development, particularly within the education sector.

The conference will bring together key stakeholders from government, academia, industry, and civil society to deliberate on how Ghana can harness the power of AI to drive innovation and national growth. It will also focus on how the country can proactively prepare for the technological disruptions expected to reshape economies, jobs, and learning environments in the coming years.

A key highlight of the discussions will be the integration of foundational technology and AI-related subjects into Ghana’s basic education curriculum. The goal is to equip the next generation of students with the digital skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in a rapidly evolving, technology-driven world.

Speaking at the commissioning of a new teachers’ accommodation facility at Accra Girls Senior High School last Wednesday, Minister for Education, Honourable Haruna Iddrisu, emphasized the government’s commitment to digital transformation in education.
“We cannot afford to be left behind in the AI revolution,” the Minister stated. “This conference will be a crucial step in positioning Ghana’s education system to respond to future demands while creating new opportunities for innovation and growth.”

He reiterated the Ministry’s focus on digitizing education, improving infrastructure, and laying the foundation for a 21st-century learning ecosystem.
The upcoming AI conference marks a significant milestone in Ghana’s journey towards building a knowledge-based, technology-enabled society. It reflects a broader national agenda to embrace innovation while ensuring inclusive and sustainable development.
