Officials of Global Alliance for Technologies in Nature Conservation (GAfTiNC) are piloting an initiative called Personified Tree Planting System (PTPS).

It is a cloud-based database designed to track the entire lifecycle of a tree, from its delicate beginnings in the nursery to its robust maturity.

Unlike traditional systems, PTPS personalizes the experience by linking individual planters to the tree they plant.

It encourages individuals and institutions to plant trees and tag their personal details to the trees they have planted , fostering a sense of engagement and responsibility for environmental conservation.

PTPS gathers and analyzes data through the tree’s journey, from seedling stage to mature stage.

The information provides valuable insights into growth patterns, environmental conditions and potential challenges.

PTPS offers each tree a unique code attached to it.

Scanning this code reveals the identity of the planter, and details of the tree, among others, fostering a sense of ownership and pride.

Currently, it is been piloted in Ashanti region (Nkawie and Mampong) and some areas within the Greater Accra Region.

It will be systematically replicated in other parts of the country; officials have indicated.

President of GAfTiNC, Mr. Emmanuel Opoku disclosed the intervention to the media on the sidelines of the launch of the ‘Tree for Life’ reforestation initiative at Nkawie of Ashanti region on Friday.

He lamented over the extent of damage caused to a number of forest reserves in Ghana, saying it is high time all got themselves involved in tree planting.

“Tree Planting is everybody’s responsibility”, he indicated.

He urged the public to to actively participate in safeguarding the forests while promoting sustainable agricultural practices, “bearing in mind that technologiew undeniably shape and influence every aspect of modern life and can be adopted in promoting sustainability.”

Mr. Emmanuel Opoku made known that GAfTiNC is doing its part by integrating cutting-edge technologies into nature conservation efforts.

“In that we help address the pressing challenges facing our planet’s biodiversity and natural ecosystems.”
