The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene has sent a strong warning to persons who dispose refuse at unapproved areas in the region especially the Central Business District (CBD).
He has ordered the redirection of Close Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras mounted at vantage areas within the CBD to capture footages and images of persons engaging in such act.
The Minister has also solemnly stated that he will not entertain any apology from or on behalf of individuals who will be caught on any of the tapes.
“Such persons will be dealt with according to the law”, he said in an interview with the media on the sidelines of a clean up exercise held on Saturday.
The clean up formed part of a 2-week long activities marking the Ashanti Festival for the year 2025.
“I want to send this signal out there so that at the end of the day if someone is captured on tape or we get evidence or someone reports that an individual is dumping refuse in the drains or at unapproved places, they wouldn’t come begging or apologizing for something that they were warned about ahead of time.”
Dr. Frank Amoakohene advised that cleanliness of the region and for that matter nation building is a collective effort. “It’s not the effort of only central government.
We need citizens to support us.”
Clean-up Exercise
The clean up exercise recorded massive attendance.
Aside the CBD, the exercise was replicated same day in all sub-metros, districts and Municipalities in the region, subject to the directive of the Minister.
