2004 year group of Yaa Asantewaa Senior High School has cut sod to commence the construction of a 2.1 billion old Ghana cedis legacy project for their alma mater.
It covers reconstruction of the frontage fence wall that links the main entrance of the school, construction and tightening of the school’s northern gate to enhance security, rehabilitation of an iconic fountain situated in front of the administration block, a welcome garden among others.
Commissioning of the facilities after completion has been scheduled to coincide with the 20th anniversary celebration of the school which falls on October, 2024.
Holding the sod-cutting ceremony on Friday, 16 August, 2024, the alumni used the occasion the unveil official clothing for the anniversary.
Addressing the media on the sidelines, Vice President for the group, Honorata Nsomah Akanzinge said the gesture is a way of paying back to their alma mater for the academic impact they received when they were students.
She told newsmen that the level of discipline and excellent academic training they gained are what fueled their decision.
She added that as alumni, they want to see improvement in the school, hence the support.
Expressing her gratitude, the headmistress, Madam Felicia Asamoah Danquah thanked the group for the support.
She mentioned that construction of the wall and the main entrance as part of the legacy project came up as great relive to her.
According to her, the state of the school’s main entrance is a great challenge, explaining that it is not beautiful as compared to that of category A schools.
The Headmistress noted that, the project mirrors the old students’ appreciation of what the school implanted in them.
