The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has led a delegation of the Ashanti Regional Security Council (RECSEC), along with several Municipal and District Chief Executives, to the Manhyia Palace to officially express condolences to His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II following the announcement of the passing of the Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III.

In a statement shared via his official Facebook page, Dr. Amoakohene conveyed the region’s collective grief and paid tribute to the late Queen Mother, describing her passing as a significant loss to the Ashanti Kingdom and the nation as a whole.

“The passing of the Asantehemaa is a moment of deep sorrow for the Ashanti Region and the entire nation. We visited the Palace to express our heartfelt sympathies to His Majesty and the royal family,” the statement read.

The visit also served as an opportunity for the Regional Minister and his team to brief the Asantehene on plans being put in place by President John Dramani Mahama regarding the State Funeral for the eight military personnel who tragically lost their lives in a helicopter crash last week.

“We also took the opportunity to update His Majesty on the plans by H.E. the President towards the State Funeral, in honour of the life, service, and legacy of the 8 compatriots who perished,” Dr. Amoakohene added.

He concluded the statement with a solemn tribute: “May the soul of the Asantehemaa and our 8 departed compatriots rest peacefully.”

The region is expected to enter a period of mourning, with funeral rites for the late Queen Mother anticipated to draw thousands from across Ghana and beyond, in accordance with tradition and royal custom.
