In a heartfelt tribute shared on his official Facebook page, Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Samuel Sarpong — a man he described not only as a senior and a statesman, but as a mentor and personal coach.

Recalling their recent interaction on February 12th, Dr. Amoakohene revealed that he had met with several former Ashanti Regional Ministers to seek their counsel and support. Among them was Dr. Sarpong, whose words left a lasting impression.

“Among the many wise words shared that day, one stands out,” Dr. Amoakohene wrote. “The advice from Dr. Samuel Sarpong: ‘Avoid procrastination and value time.’”

Reflecting on that moment, the Minister added, “It felt like he knew something the rest of us didn’t — as if he was preparing to say goodbye without saying it.”

Dr. Sarpong’s influence on the current Minister extended beyond politics. Both alumni of Osei Tutu Senior High School, Dr. Amoakohene described him as a senior whose mentorship shaped his leadership journey.

“Dr. Sarpong wasn’t just a public servant. He was my senior at Osei Tutu SHS. More than that, I saw him as a coach — a guide whose wisdom and presence I deeply valued,” he noted.

Ending the tribute with deep emotion, Dr. Amoakohene wrote: “His passing is a personal loss. Ghana has lost a statesman. I have lost a coach. Rest well, Dr. Samuel Sarpong. Your words will continue to guide me.”

Dr. Sarpong, remembered for his dedication and humility, served in various political capacities, including as Regional Minister for both the Ashanti and Central Regions. His death has sent ripples through the political and civic communities, with tributes pouring in from colleagues, former students, and constituents alike.
