Leadership of United Traders Forum has organised a day’s training for kejetia market women on preventive measures against fire outbreak.
The training also focused at sensitizing them on the need to insure their businesses with competent insurance companies for support in the wake of disasters and also cooperate with city authorities as they deliver their services within the Central Business District.
It happened on Wednesday, 26th March 2025 with funding support from Star Ghana Foundation.
The training was in line with objectives of a project dubbed: “Promoting Accountability, and Transparency (PACT) for Quality Services in the Kejetia Market Project-Phase 2”.
Fire safety training forms part of the list of activities done under this project.
Officials from the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) and Ghana Fire Service turned up at the occasion.
Presentation by fire officials gave them basic preventive tips against fire outbreak such as installation of fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, creation of fire escape routes.
In his address, Charles Pickson, Estate Officer at KMA noted that the bye-laws of the assembly urge traders to get their businesses insured with competent insurance companies.
He explained that when the foregoing is done, insurance companies will come to access the losses of traders and offer them the needed assistance.
Briefing the media after the training, Secretary to United Traders Forum, Appiah Kubi Yeboah indicated that following the fire outbreak, the leadership saw it needful to hold the training to empower them to be more responsible towards their market safety.
He said among the objectives of the project include;
Empower market women to be more responsible towards their general health, market hygiene, market safety and to abide by KMA’s bye-laws and in fulfilling their obligations.
This he explained will also help improved health and sanitation needs, safety needs, and economic growth of traders and other market dwellers in Kejetia and its adjourning Markets.
“This project is to create an enabling environment for traders in Kejetia and its adjourning markets in doing their businesses and maximizing profits as a result of improved services, accountability and inclusion in the management of the markets as well as creating a culture of responsiveness on the part of traders, etc”.
