The Member of Parliament for Kwadaso constituency, Dr. Kingsley Nyarko, has taken aim at the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government for what he describes as a deliberate refusal to continue health infrastructure projects initiated under the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Agenda 111 initiative.

The Agenda 111 project, launched during the tenure of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, aimed to construct 111 hospitals nationwide to bridge healthcare delivery gaps, especially in underserved areas.

However, Dr. Nyarko has expressed disappointment over why many of the hospitals have not been continued by the NDC, accusing the current administration of neglecting a vital national priority.

Speaking to journalists, the Kwadaso MP argued that state-funded projects should transcend political transitions.

“Governance is about continuity,” he said. “These hospitals were not personal projects of any political party. They are the kind that are funded by the Ghanaian taxpayer or loans secured by the state, and if completed, they would serve all citizens, regardless of their political affiliations.”
Dr. Nyarko criticized the NDC government’s inaction, suggesting that its approach undermines national development and puts unnecessary strain on the country’s already overstretched healthcare system.
“Our doctor-to-patient ratio is far below global standards. The World Health Organization recommends a ratio of 1 doctor to 1,320 patients, but Ghana currently stands at a staggering 1 to 10,415,” he lamented.
“This shortfall is not just a statistic—it translates into long wait times, overworked medical staff, and in many cases, avoidable loss of lives.”
He further questioned why the government would sideline a project with such clear national benefits.
“It’s as though the NDC believes the funding came from their opponents’ pockets. That mindset is not just unfortunate—it’s dangerous. We are playing politics with people’s health.”
Dr. Nyarko called on President Mahama and the Health Ministry to prioritize the completion of the Agenda 111 hospitals, insisting that the country cannot afford to waste public resources or stall progress due to partisan considerations.
