The Member of Parliament for Kwadaso, Hon. Dr. Kingsley Nyarko, has intensified his criticism of President John Dramani Mahama and the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), this time over the government’s plan to construct a brand-new six-lane Accra-Kumasi expressway.

Following his earlier critique of the NDC’s alleged abandonment of hospitals under the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Agenda 111 initiative, Dr. Nyarko has now taken aim at the proposed expressway, describing it as a deviation from the existing dualisation project started under former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

While the NDC’s six-lane expressway is scheduled to commence next year, Dr. Nyarko has questioned the rationale behind abandoning the ongoing dualisation effort.

Addressing newsmen in Kumasi, he expressed concern that President Mahama appears to have deliberately disregarded the previous administration’s progress on the road, opting instead for a completely new plan.

Speaking to the media, Dr. Nyarko argued that such a move contradicts Article 35(7) of the 1992 Constitution, which mandates successive governments to continue development projects initiated by their predecessors.

“There is no wisdom in what the ruling party is doing. Former President Akufo-Addo began the dualisation works, and I expect President Mahama and the NDC to continue from there,” he stated.

According to the Kwadaso MP, starting a new six-lane project will cause further delays, as the government will now need to formulate fresh plans and secure funding for its execution.
