Following the burial of the state heroes who tragically lost their lives in the August 6 helicopter crash, Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has issued a powerful public statement calling for the nation to rise and complete the environmental mission left behind by the fallen heroes.

In a heartfelt message posted on his official Facebook page, the Minister described the solemn state burial as a “world-class heroes’ send-off” and extended gratitude to both Ghanaians and the international community for their solidarity.

“The Martyrs of August 6 received a deserving world-class heroes’ send-off. God bless all Ghanaians, and those who mourned with us across the globe. May the Lord console and heal our nation. Their unfinished mission for environmental justice must now be accomplished in earnest,” Ablakwa wrote.

The late officers, who died in the line of duty, were reportedly engaged in a special mission connected to Ghana’s fight against environmental degradation, particularly illegal mining (galamsey) and deforestation.

Their deaths have sparked widespread national mourning, with tributes pouring in from across the political, religious, and civil spectrum.

The Minister’s statement is being interpreted as both a tribute and a call to action — one that places a renewed spotlight on Ghana’s ongoing environmental challenges and the sacrifices made by those who confront them.

The burial, held with full military honours, drew national attention as a moment of unity, reflection, and resolve. Former President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, senior government officials, religious leaders, and the families of the deceased were present to pay their last respects.

Environmental activists have welcomed Ablakwa’s comments, urging the government to translate the sentiment into concrete policy actions that honor the memory of the fallen through lasting change.

As the nation mourns, the challenge ahead is clear — to transform grief into governance, remembrance into results, and sacrifice into sustained environmental justice.
