On Friday 12th September, 2025 the Foreign Service Institute (FSI) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs together with the Embassy of the Republic of Colombia in Ghana welcomed participants of the 12th Edition of the Spanish Language Course in an Open Ceremony held at FSI.

The participants were officials from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs; Youth Development and Empowerment; and the Ghana Immigration Service.

In a statement read by the Deputy Director of FSI, Mr. Edward Thompson on behalf of the Director of the Institute, Ambassador Muhammad Adam, he stated that the programme is intended to strengthen the capacity of the officials for international engagements and professional advancement.

Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy of the Republic of Colombia, Ms. Kelis Zulay Moreno Mosquera highlighted that in addition to improving the proficiency of participants, the course is also meant to strengthen the bilateral relations between the two countries and further lay a foundation to deepen ties in other sectors. She added that about 180 officials have participated in the course since its inception in 2014.

Delivering the closing remarks on behalf of the Acting Chief Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Director I of FSI, Mr. Francis Gborglah mentioned that the course is a diplomatic tool and capacity building initiative that would empower diplomats and public servants with critical linguistics and cultural skills.

The continuous collaboration between Ghana and Colombia is a testament of the commitment of the two countries to enhance relations for mutual benefit.
