As part of efforts to support the global fight against breast cancer, Sompa Mensah Medical Centre is organizing a Breast Cancer Awareness and Free Screening Exercise this October.

The event is scheduled to take place on Monday, 27th October 2025, starting at 8:00 AM, at the Sompa Mensah Medical Centre, located at Ekyem-Aboagye Estate, Okyerekrom, Ejisu Municipality, Kumasi, Ghana.

Breast cancer remains one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths among women globally. The disease often develops silently, without symptoms in its early stages, which is why early detection through regular screening is critical to saving lives.

Understanding the Dangers

If left undetected or untreated, breast cancer can spread (metastasize) to other parts of the body such as the bones, liver, lungs, or brain, drastically reducing the chances of successful treatment and survival.

It can cause severe pain, fatigue, organ failure, and even death. The emotional and financial toll on families and communities is also significant.

What Causes Breast Cancer?

While the exact cause of breast cancer is not always known, several risk factors have been identified:

  • Family history of breast cancer
  • Genetic mutations (such as BRCA1 and BRCA2)
  • Age (risk increases with age)
  • Obesity and unhealthy diet
  • Smoking and alcohol consumption
  • Lack of physical activity
  • Hormonal imbalances, including long-term hormone replacement therapy
  • Early menstruation or late menopause

Being aware of these risk factors and undergoing regular screeningscan greatly improve outcomes and potentially save lives.

This initiative by Sompa Mensah Medical Centre aims not only to provide free breast cancer screenings, but also to educate the public, especially women, on the importance of early detection and healthy lifestyle choices.

“Breast cancer is real! Early detection is paramount and goes a long way to save lives,” emphasized management of Sompa Mensah Medical Centre.

The Centre is calling on all women within and beyond the Ejisu Municipality to take advantage of this life-saving opportunity.

Don’t miss out on this chance to prioritize your health during this month of breast cancer awareness.
