Six outstanding basic schools have booked their places in the Northern Sector finals of the 2026 edition of the Perfect Series Basic School Assessment Contest after an intense and highly competitive semi-final stage held in Kumasi on Thursday.

The academic showdown, hosted at the Kumasi Anglican Senior High School, brought together eight schools from across the sector, all vying for a place in the next stage of the prestigious competition.

The atmosphere at the venue was charged with excitement as contestants demonstrated remarkable knowledge, confidence, and critical thinking skills across various subject areas.

At the end of the contest, OA Legacy International School emerged as the overall winner with a commanding score of 348.5 points.

Their performance was widely regarded as exceptional, marked by consistency and strong subject mastery.

Closely trailing in second place was Unique Educational Complex, which scored 339.5 points, while Eldia Montessori Preparatory School secured third position with 337.5 points after an equally impressive showing.

Reverence Preparatory and Junior High School finished fourth with 326.5 points, demonstrating resilience throughout the competition.

Konadu Educational Complex placed fifth with 291 points, while Bosomtwe STEM Academy clinched the sixth and final qualifying slot with 285.5 points.

Unfortunately, Glitters Stars Academy, which scored 264.5 points, and Sunshine State Educational Complex, with 216.5 points, were unable to progress further, finishing in seventh and eighth positions respectively.

High Academic Standards on Display

Observers and organizers alike praised the high standard of performance exhibited during the semi-finals.

Contestants tackled challenging questions, reflecting a strong grasp of their academic curriculum.

The competition also highlighted the growing importance of analytical thinking and problem-solving among basic school students, with many participants demonstrating abilities beyond their grade level.

Road to the National Stage

With qualification secured, the six schools will now proceed to the zonal finals, where competition is expected to intensify further.

The winning school in each zone will be awarded a cash prize of GH¢6,000.

From the zonal stage, the top three performing schools will advance to the grand finale at the national level, where they will compete for ultimate glory and significant prizes.

The overall winner of the national competition will take home GH¢25,000, a refrigerator, a 50-inch flat-screen television, and a trophy.

The second-place team will receive GH¢15,000 and a 32-inch television.

Additional prizes include:
Fourth place: GH¢5,000
Fifth place: GH¢3,000
Sixth place: GH¢2,000

In addition, all contestants will be rewarded with tablets, medals, and other items to recognize their effort and participation.

Organizer Applauds Students’ Critical Thinking

Speaking to journalists after the event, the Chief Executive Officer of Perfect Series Publication and Perfect Star Media Production, Pastor Philip Sarpong, expressed his delight at the level of performance displayed by the students.

He noted that he was particularly “bamboozled” by the brilliance and depth of knowledge exhibited by contestants, especially at the semi-final stage.

According to him, the competition is not only about winning but also about nurturing academic excellence and inspiring students to push beyond their limits.

“After observing the scores and the way the students answered questions, I have realized that students of today are critical thinkers,” he said.

Pastor Sarpong further emphasized that the contest continues to play a significant role in motivating students to study harder, as they are exposed to the high standards set by their peers.

“The contest is really challenging them to learn hard and it’s also enhancing their learning skills,” he added.

Growing Impact of the Contest

Since its inception, the Perfect Series Basic School Assessment Contest has grown into one of the most anticipated academic competitions for basic schools, providing a platform for young learners to showcase their intellectual abilities.

Education stakeholders believe such competitions complement classroom learning by boosting students’ confidence, promoting healthy academic rivalry, and preparing them for future academic challenges.

As the competition progresses to the next stage, expectations remain high, with many looking forward to even more thrilling performances in the zonal and national finals.
