I consider myself a lifetime learner and an advocate of the importance of Education on both national and global platforms.
On the 10th of July, 2024, I completed day 1, of the 2024 Global First Ladies Academy, which falls in line with the 3-Day Certified Executive Leadership Training in Health and Development, at Ford Foundation in New York City.
As a training program initiated to Foster collaboration and create opportunities for First Ladies to collaborate across continents, strategically equipping First Ladies with the tools and knowledge to run their offices more effectively, and deepen the understanding of significant global developments in a constantly changing geopolitical, economic, environmental, social, and technological context, todayโs opening session was well received.
Interestingly, being an advocate and a key player in womenโs and children-related issues in my home country and the globe, these sessions allowed me to reflect and ponder on the importance of key foundational principles within my unique role as the First Lady of my beloved Sierra Leone, and how I intend to solidify the importance of access to Education, Healthcare and Economic independence for my countryโs youthful population.
During one of our interactive sessions, I was given a chance to speak about my flagship program; the Hands Off Our Girls Campaign, stating the vision, the inspiration behind its launch, and its tremendous impact on our nation. I chanced to briefly speak about the newly passed โProhibition of Child Marriage Act, of 2024โ, which has banned Child marriage in Sierra Leone.
I look forward to completing this intense academic learning experience with my fellow sisters, as we pave the way into a sustainable global community.
