On October 21, 2024, I had the honor of serving as a guest lecturer at Brigham Young University, a distinguished institution renowned for producing influential figures such as politician and businessman Mitt Romney, as well as notable actors Aaron Eckhart and Matthew Modine.
My lecture focused on the global significance of gender equality, advocating for equal opportunities for women and challenging the entrenched stereotypes in Africa that regard women as mere domestic caretakers and childbearers. I highlighted the achievements of my husband’s government in banning child marriage and establishing a framework that ensures every girl has access to quality education.
In an effort to inspire the students, I shared my personal journey of escaping child marriage, pursuing my education, and ultimately becoming an award-winning First Lady.
Later, I had the privilege of meeting with Shane Reese, the President of this esteemed institution, who elaborated on the historical significance of BYU’s values and how these principles have underpinned its success throughout the years.
