Her Excellency Dr. Fatima Maada Bio, the First Lady of Sierra Leone, attended the burial ceremony of Mr. Mohamed Amadu Sesay, affectionately known as O’Level, who passed away on August 6, 2024.
The ceremony, held at the Kenema District Council Multipurpose Hall on Nyandeyama Road and the Regional Central Mosque, saw Dr. Fatima Maada Bio deliver a heartfelt tribute, lay a wreath, and sign the Book of Condolence.
Mr. Mohamed Amadu Sesay, who began his term as Chairman of the Kenema District Council in 2018, was a respected leader known for his unwavering dedication and service to the community. His leadership was marked by integrity and commitment, leaving a lasting impact on the people he served.
Dr. Fatima Maada Bio’s presence at the ceremony underscored her deep respect for Mr. Sesay’s contributions and her dedication to honouring those who have shaped Sierra Leone’s future. In her tribute, she reflected on Mr. Sesay’s legacy and the values he embodied.
“In Kenema, where the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) has its roots and continues to thrive, we reaffirm our commitment to the principles and vision that guide us,” Dr. Fatima Maada Bio stated.
“Let O’Level be a beacon of inspiration for us all, demonstrating how to serve with integrity and dedication. May his story be one that our children, community, and religious leaders will proudly recount.”
Her Excellency expressed gratitude to the Sesay family, the Kenema District Council, the Minister of Local Government, and all who attended the ceremony. She urged everyone to forgive and reconcile, emphasising the importance of embracing Sesay’s memory with compassion.
Mr. Mohamed Amadu Sesay was laid to rest at the Kenema Heroes Square Cemetery, a place reserved for individuals who have made significant contributions to the community. This honour reflects the high regard in which he was held and his enduring influence on Kenema.
The ceremony concluded with a final procession at the central mosque, where Her Excellency and the Muslim community reflected on Mr. Sesay’s life and legacy. Though President Dr. Julius Maada Bio could not attend due to his commitments at the United Nations, his presence was felt through the First Lady’s heartfelt words and the collective mourning of a grateful community.
