Their matriculation was held on Friday,17th May, 2024 under the theme: “Training Disciplined Nurses and Midwives: The Role of Stakeholders”.

Matriculation of the students, reflects authorities’ efforts, geared towards absorbing qualified SHS graduates to equip them with health related skills for a better future and nation building.

With a current population of 2,200, the institution has so far trained a total of 4,207 students ( 2,758 registered Nurses and 1,449 registered Midwives).

“Products of the college are performing very well at various institutions in Ghana and beyond”, the Principal of the College, Dr. Daniel Atta Tuffour announced in his address at the ceremony.

He underlined that the foregoing forms part of the many contributions Seventh-Day Adventist Church through their schools is offering for the development of Human Resources for national development.

Dr. Tuffour gave credence that the presence of the college at Barekese has improved the local economy by providing job opportunities for indigenes and those of surrounding communities, indicating that the school contributed in earning Barekese the district capital status.

Despite the aforementioned achievements, he named inadequate lecture halls for students, inadequate teaching and learning materials, untarred roads of the school etc as major challenges suffocating the institution.

He therefore pleaded for the support of individuals and stakeholders to salvage them from the situation.

Still in his address, the Principal admonished the matriculants to make the most of the opportunities that the school has for them.

“As you navigate the challenges and triumphs that lie ahead, know that you are not alone. You have a dedicated team of educators, staff members and fellow students who are here to support you in every step of the way”.

Touching of the theme for the occasion in her keynote address, the Guest Speaker Dr. Lily Obenewaa Asare (Pre-Service & In-Service Training Coordinator, Ghana Adventist Health Services) mentioned that stakeholders have a vital role to play in shaping the future of healthcare professionals.

She stated that “as we strive to provide quality patient care, it is essential to recognize the importance of collaboration and collective responsibility”.

Considering key role played by nurses and Midwives in the attainment of Sustainable Development Goal 3 through Universal Health Covers, she said government is working tirelessly to ensure quality training , equitable distribution of a competent health workforce and improvement in health infrastructure.

At the event, authorities of the school used the occasion to acknowledge and award best performing students.
