The Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Sanitation and Water Resources, Hon. John Oti Bless, has called on government and relevant authorities to introduce a legislation in Parliament to establish a dedicated funding source for waste management.

He made this appeal during a monitoring visit to assess sanitation challenges in Tamale, the Northern Regional capital
According to him, the Committee has studied practices in about eight countries, all of which have a dedicated tax component earmarked for waste management.

The Committee commended the Jospong Group of Companies for its Integrated Recycling and Compost Plant (IRECOP) in Tamale after touring the facility.

The Head of Quality Control and Research at IRECOP, Stephen Nuamah, led the Committee on the tour of the facility, showcasing farms where carrots, cabbage, green pepper, lettuce, corn, and fish are cultivated using the plant’s organic compost.

The Committee paid a courtesy call on the Tamale Metropolitan Chief Executive, Hon. Alhaji Adam Abubakari Takoro,who briefed them on sanitation initiatives in the jurisdiction in line with the directives from President John Dramani Mahama.
