The Member of Parliament for Salaga-South, Hon. Hajia Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimah, has renewed her pledge to secure a lasting solution to the persistent electricity challenges confronting communities in the East Gonja Municipality.

Speaking at the launch of the 55th Anniversary Celebration of Salaga T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School on Saturday, February 14, 2026, the MP underscored the urgent need for reliable power supply to enhance academic performance and ensure equal opportunities for students across the country.

Addressing students, teachers and invited guests, Hon. Hajia Zuwera lamented that students in Salaga continue to endure unstable electricity while preparing for the same national examinations as their peers in leading institutions such as Achimota School and Mfantsipim School, where power supply is consistent.

She described the situation as inequitable and called for deliberate efforts to bridge the development gap between rural and urban schools. According to her, access to stable electricity is no longer a luxury but a necessity for effective teaching, learning and research.

The legislator disclosed that her office has been in active discussions with the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition to address the long-standing power outages in the municipality.

She commended President John Dramani Mahama for his support and commitment to ensuring that Salaga is provided with its own electricity sub-station.

Hon. Hajia Zuwera revealed that contractual arrangements for the construction of the sub-station are currently in progress, expressing optimism that the project will bring permanent relief to residents and institutions in the area.

Beyond electricity concerns, the MP highlighted ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure at the school. She announced plans to rehabilitate the ICT and science laboratories to meet modern standards and improve the quality of instruction.

She also disclosed that, following engagements with the Ministry of Education, the contractor handling the school’s dining hall project has resumed work.

In addition, she assured the school community that new projects including a housemistresses’ bungalow and a dormitory block will be undertaken to address accommodation challenges.
Reaffirming her commitment to the people of Salaga-South, the MP pledged to continue advocating for policies and projects that will uplift the constituency and improve living standards.

The anniversary launch drew a distinguished gathering, including Yiram Kpembewura Banbange Ndefoso IV, Paramount Chief of the Kpembe Traditional Area; Hon. Salisu Be-Awuribe, Savannah Regional Minister; Hon. Kassim Yazid Rabiu, Municipal Chief Executive for East Gonja Municipality; Dr. Issahaque Munawaru, Deputy Director-General (Quality and Access) of the Ghana Education Service; the Headmaster, Mr. Issahaku Awalu Jahanfo; and Mr. Haruna Abdul Aziz, NDC Constituency Chairman.

The event not only marked 55 years of academic excellence but also reignited calls for equitable development and improved infrastructure to support quality education in Salaga and surrounding communities.
