Kwame Baffoe, also known as Abronye DC, has apologized to President John Dramani Mahama for his recent comments regarding the alleged transportation of GH₵550 million in a bullion van.
In an interview on Movement TV on Friday, February 28, 2025, Abronye admitted that his statement was misunderstood and clarified his position.
Speaking on the show, the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) explained that when he said John Mahama used a bullion van to transport the money meant for public sector workers, he did not mean that the former president had stolen the money. According to him, his intention was to highlight that Mahama, as the head of state, was responsible for such funds, along with the Speaker of Parliament and the Chairman of the Council of State. He cited Article 179, Clause 11 of the Constitution to support his claim.
Abronye further revealed that during his meeting with the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), he apologized for making the statement, which caused public controversy.
He also expressed regret for sharing his invitation letter from the NIB on social media, admitting that the letter was meant to remain confidential. He acknowledged that publishing it was inappropriate and apologized to the NIB committee for the mistake.
His apology comes after he was summoned by the NIB to explain his allegations.
The invitation, dated February 21, 2025, required him to appear before the intelligence body on February 26, 2025, for questioning.
His claims had generated widespread debate, with some accusing him of spreading false information and others defending his right to free speech.
