The Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Honourable James Gyakye Quayson (MP), on Wednesday, 11 February 2026, received a delegation from Nuclear Power Ghana, led by Executive Chief Director Dr. Stephen Yamoah.

During the meeting, the delegation provided an update on the country’s progress in harnessing nuclear energy for peaceful and civil purposes.

Key areas discussed included site assessments, community engagement, vendor technology selection, capacity building, infrastructure development, and regulatory compliance to ensure safety.

The delegation also outlined plans for integrating nuclear-generated power into the national grid and exporting electricity regionally through the West African Power Pool (WAPP), with the long-term goal of positioning Ghana as a regional leader in nuclear energy.

In his remarks, Deputy Minister Quayson commended Nuclear Power Ghana for its strategic approach to program implementation and emphasized the Ministry’s support for initiatives promoting the safe and peaceful use of nuclear technology.

He underscored the importance of adhering to international safety standards and strengthening collaboration with relevant stakeholders to advance Ghana’s nuclear energy objectives.

The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to deepen cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Nuclear Power Ghana, aiming to enhance the country’s capacity in nuclear energy development.
