A little over 150 traders in Kumasi are advocating for the selection of a woman from Ashanti region to pair Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as his running mate in the upcoming 2024 general elections.
They held a press conference in the early hours of Friday, 12th April, 2024, at Kejetia market, calling on the party NEC of NPP to consider their request, defending that women can equally deliver as men in matters related to nation governance.
Appointment from Ashanti region according to them will be NPP’s recognition of the efforts of Ashanti’s adding that, honoring the request will help the party to break the 8.
Addressing the media, Chairman for Kejetia Identifiable Groups (comprising traders at Kejetia, Race Course, Central market) Mr. Emmanuel Jackie pleaded on the overlord of Ashanti Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to step in by calling on the leadership of NPP to appoint a woman of an Asante descent for the position.
He also called the clergy in Ghana also so same.
