Speculations surrounding the race for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) running mate position have been quelled by the former General Secretary.
Boadu firmly stated that the running mate position within the party is not up for contest, making any lobbying for the post futile.
The competition for the running mate role alongside NPP flagbearer Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has been heating up, with leading contenders including Energy Minister Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Education Minister Dr Yaw Adutwum, Chief of Staff Frema Osei Opare, Communications Minister Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, and Member of Parliament for Bekwai, Joe Osei Owusu.
Despite the growing competition, Boadu expressed confidence that all leading contenders will be disappointed when the official announcement is made regarding the running mate. He clarified that the National Council within the NPP holds the ultimate decision-making authority for selecting a running mate, suggesting that the flagbearer’s preference could potentially be overturned.
During an interview on Accra-based Peace FM, Boadu emphasized that the chosen running mate will be someone who can support Dr. Bawumia and the NPP in retaining power and surpassing the two-term limit.
The former NPP scribe made it clear that while the presidential candidate may have a preference, the National Council has the final say in the matter.
