The Mayor of Accra, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, has led a task force to enforce the Assembly’s building permit regulations, reiterating the legal requirement for all developers to obtain the necessary permits before commencing construction.

The exercise, which took place on Tuesday focused on activities such as hoarding, change of use, renovations, sub-division of land, demolition, erection of billboards, and other land uses covering communities including North Kaneshie, Bubuashie, Avenor, and the Industrial Area.

Speaking during the operations, the Mayor said the exercise was in line with the Accra Metropolitan Assembly Bye-laws, 2017, (Building/Physical Development) which mandates developers in section 1(1) to “apply for a development and a building permit before that developer commences development.”

He used the opportunity to urge developers to adhere to the building regulations to ensure orderly physical development, public safety, the sustainable growth of the city, and to avoid sanctions.
