In a bold and historic move set to revolutionize healthcare in Nkawie and its surrounding communities, Oheneba Kwame Akoto, the revered Chief of Nkwawie, has cut the sod for the construction of a state-of-the-art Accident and Emergency Ward at the Nkawie-Toase Government Hospital.

The dramatic intervention comes after alarming reports revealed the deteriorating state of the hospital’s current emergency facilities.

Deeply moved, the Chief conducted a personal inspection and what he saw galvanized him into action.

“What I witnessed was unacceptable. Our people deserve better,” he told reporters.

Determined to change the narrative, Oheneba Kwame Akoto is personally funding the project with an initial GH₵100,000, signaling a new era of community-driven development.

In a powerful show of unity, his subjects have also stepped up, donating 200 bags of cement to fuel the construction.

The ground-breaking ceremony, held on Friday, October 10, 2025, turned into a rallying point for hope, with the Atwima Nwabiagya South District Chief Executive in attendance, pledging full support and hinting at possible backing from the Presidency.

Calling on philanthropists, corporate bodies, and NGOs, the Chief passionately appealed for broader support:

“This isn’t just a building. It’s a lifeline. It’s about saving lives and restoring dignity to our healthcare system.”

The project, once completed, is expected to significantly improve emergency response in the district, potentially saving countless lives and positioning Nkawie-Toase Hospital on top of emergency care in the district.
