The Media Coalition for Development – Adansi has issued a strongly-worded statement condemning derogatory remarks made about local farmers and youth from Adansi Brofoyedu, who assisted in the immediate response to the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight public officials, including Ministers of State.

Among the deceased was Hon. Samuel Aboagye, a distinguished native of Adansi, alongside members of the military crew. The crash, which occurred near Brofoyedu in the Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region, has plunged the nation into mourning.

In their statement, the Coalition expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the state officials and extended heartfelt condolences to the affected families and the nation. However, the group also voiced outrage over what they describe as “unsavory public comments” labeling the local youth and farmers as “villagers and thieves.”

“Describing these young individuals as ‘villagers and thieves’ is not only unjust but also ungrateful. We strongly condemn such remarks,” the Coalition declared.

According to the group, the Brofoyedu youth played a crucial role in the rescue and evacuation efforts, acting with “remarkable courage, compassion, and patriotism.”

The statement emphasized that while rewards may not be expected, simple acknowledgment and appreciation of their selflessness should be the minimum gesture from the public and authorities.

Special Recognition

The Coalition also commended key officials for their decisive leadership during the crisis, specifically citing the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, Hon. Gariba Mohammed (Akrofuom DCE), and other MMDCEs in Adansi.

“Your dedication, leadership, and commitment to preserving the dignity of the deceased are truly commendable,” the statement read.

The group urged all well-meaning Ghanaians to join them in condemning the derogatory statements and instead uplift the spirit of unity, compassion, and national pride displayed by the local community.
