John Dramani Mahama, Ghana’s President-elect, has unveiled an ambitious 26-point agenda aimed at addressing the country’s pressing economic challenges and fostering sustainable development.

In his first address after the 2024 elections, Mahama laid out a comprehensive plan to stabilize the economy, improve social welfare, and promote good governance during his first 120 days in office.

A key focus of Mahama’s agenda is economic recovery, with an emphasis on reducing inflation, stabilizing the Ghanaian cedi, and restoring investor confidence.

Central to this initiative is the formation of a National Economic Recovery Task Force, which will bring together experts to provide actionable solutions in the early days of his administration.

To help ease the cost of living, Mahama also pledged to suspend the Value Added Tax (VAT) on essential goods, such as food and fuel, offering immediate relief to Ghanaians.

Addressing the high levels of youth unemployment, Mahama announced plans to relaunch the “Jobs for the Youth” initiative, designed to provide opportunities for young graduates and skilled workers.

In addition to economic issues, Mahama’s agenda focuses on social welfare, with proposals for a National Housing Scheme for low-income earners and a pension plan for informal sector workers.

On governance, Mahama emphasized transparency and accountability, committing to reforms such as reconstituting the Special Prosecutor’s Office and introducing whistleblower protection laws.

He also plans to invest in infrastructure, including roads, schools, and healthcare facilities, while expanding the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to cover a wider range of diseases. Mahama’s vision is to steer Ghana toward economic stability and inclusive growth, with a focus on improving the lives of all Ghanaians.
