General Overseer cum Presiding Bishop for Faith Outreach Ministries International, Rev. J.K Appiah has remarked that the rendering of apology by Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh over his comment against Kwame Nkrumah is a great mark of political maturity.
He said characteristic trait of that kind is also a true sign of humility, admonishing that such should be exemplified by all, especially politicians.
Rev. J.K Appiah explained in an exclusive interview with www.leakyghana.com that politicians who are full of pride and arrogance fail to admit their mistakes let alone apologizing.
“They are deceived by the false notion that rendering an apology or retracting a statement is a prove of ones weakness, “forgetting that one word can plunge a whole nation into political anarchy”.
“Not all politicians can or will do what Napo did.
Dr. Napo did the right thing. We all make mistakes. Let’s forgive him because to err is human”.
The clergy however admonished politicians to choose their words carefully especially when addressing a crowd.
“They sometimes become overjoyed when they see big crowd and forget that they are talking to the world”
Napo’s Apology
Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the running mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) issued an apology following his recent statement assessing the performances of Presidents.
The statement, which compared President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s performance to that of other former heads of state, sparked heated discussions across the nation.
Dr. Prempeh in a statement issued today (July 12, 2024) clarified that his remarks were purely his personal opinion and not an official stance of the NPP.
He said he never intended to disrespect Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, or any other former leader.
“I wish to emphasise that I never meant to disrespect our former President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, or any of our former heads of state, including my own grand uncle and mentor, Mr. John Agyekum Kufuor,” the statement said.
“I note the concerns raised after my statement. I apologise sincerely and regret any discomfort caused”.
