Former Vice President of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has officially filed his nomination to contest in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primaries scheduled for January 31, 2026.

The declaration, made public through a statement on his official Facebook page, signals his intent to lead the party into the next general elections in 2028.

“I filed my nomination papers today at the NPP Headquarters to contest the 31st January, 2026 presidential primary, God willing,” Dr. Bawumia announced.

Positioning himself as the candidate capable of returning the NPP to power, Dr. Bawumia expressed confidence in his leadership qualities, stating: “I believe my leadership would offer the NPP an opportunity for a quick return to power in 2028.”

Highlighting his credentials, the former Vice President pointed to his “character, competence, humility, and vision” as key attributes that would benefit both the party and the country if entrusted with the top job.

Dr. Bawumia also used the opportunity to call for party unity and a decorous campaign season, encouraging fellow aspirants and supporters to prioritize cohesion.

“I urged the rank and file of the party to make unity the bedrock of the campaign. On my part, I am committed to a peaceful and decent campaign,” he said.

With the nomination process now officially underway, political observers will be closely watching the dynamics within the NPP as it prepares to select its next presidential candidate.
