MTN staff volunteers of the Northern Business District, Ghana have donated school uniforms to underprivileged students of two basic schools in the Northern Region.
Beneficiaries were pupils of Katinguli R/C and Baale L/A primary schools, all within the Yendi Municipality.
The gesture forms part the list of significant support offered by the technology giant to schools through its annual employee volunteerism campaign, called “21 Days of Y’ello Care”; an intervention focused at digital inclusion and sustainability.
Aside the donation of school uniforms, other support captured under this year’s edition of Y’ello Care include; the provision of digital skills training, equipping schools with computers and other ICT resources, offering support for smart farming practices, installation of smart agricultural technology in the Northern Region, installation of computers in schools and community centers, deployment of ICT vans for hands-on digital education, among others.
Donation
At Katinguli R/C Primary school alone, 40 pupils received uniforms from MTN, Africa’s largest mobile network operator.
Mohammed Bawa Ziblim, Headmaster for the school thanked the MTN staff volunteers for channeling some of their resources to them to enhance the academic progress of pupils in the school.
Considering the highly deprived nature of the school, he pleaded on MTN to assist the school with a befitting classroom block to replace the poorly structured ones.
Per his request, the aforementioned will accommodate the number of pupils who still learn under trees.
Headmaster for Baale L/A Primary, Dauda Shani also thanked MTN Ghana, saying the donated uniforms will encourage students to come to school always.
Per the sad nature of the classroom, he also made a humble request for a modern classroom block and teachers’ bangalow from MTN.
