MTN Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to bridging the digital divide in northern Ghana with a stakeholder engagement forum held in Wa on October 21, 2025.

The regional forum, which brought together community leaders, media practitioners, local authorities, and loyal customers, formed part of MTN’s broader strategy to promote digital inclusion and strengthen collaboration with communities across the country.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Joseph Dogbe, Chief Risk and Compliance Officer at Scancom, underscored the company’s determination to accelerate digital transformation in underserved areas. He noted that reliable connectivity is a key enabler of socio-economic development, adding that MTN has invested over GH¢1 billion in digital infrastructure nationwide over the past five years.
This year alone, GH¢240 million is being directed toward expanding fibre optic coverage and improving 4G services in readiness for a nationwide 5G rollout.

Mr. Dogbe further highlighted MTN’s ongoing “DigiFest” initiative, which celebrates innovation and showcases new digital solutions tailored to Ghana’s evolving needs. Among these are the MTN DigiFest platform, which promotes tech-based learning and collaboration, and the MoMo Business App, designed to help small and medium enterprises (SMEs) streamline their financial operations.
He also introduced Abena.ai, Ghana’s first multilingual AI voice assistant that supports six major local languages; Twi, Ewe, Hausa, Ga, Dagbani, and English, ensuring digital accessibility for all Ghanaians.
On governance, Mr. Dogbe assured participants that MTN continues to uphold the highest standards of transparency, gender inclusivity, and data protection, aligning its practices with global compliance benchmarks while adapting to Ghana’s local realities.
Madam Efua Falconer, Corporate Communications Manager, reflected on MTN’s 15-year presence in the Upper West Region, emphasizing the company’s sustained commitment to improving service delivery and community engagement. She explained that the Wa forum is part of a nationwide series of stakeholder dialogues aimed at fostering mutual understanding and ensuring MTN’s services remain responsive to local needs.
The Wa Municipal Chief Executive, Alhaji Issah Nurah Danwanaa, praised MTN’s developmental contributions but urged the company to address congestion at its customer service centre by setting up additional service points within the municipality.
Local media representatives also called for stronger partnerships with MTN to promote public education and digital literacy through content produced in indigenous languages; an approach they said would ensure deeper community impact and inclusion.
