MTN Ghana has announced a US$2 million investment in the Government of Ghana’s One Million Coders Programme, reinforcing its commitment to digital inclusion, youth empowerment and national development.

The funding, made through the Ministry of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, will support the training of one million Ghanaians in coding and critical digital skills.

The initiative is designed to prepare young people for opportunities in the fast-growing digital economy while strengthening Ghana’s human capital base.
MTN Ghana’s support follows high-level engagements between MTN Group Chief Executive Officer Ralph Mupita, MTN Vice President for Ghana, Southern and East Africa Ebenezer Asante, MTN Ghana CEO Stephen Blewett, and the Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations.

The discussions took place during the GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona last year and centred on public–private collaboration to accelerate Africa’s digital transformation.
Commenting on the investment, Stephen Blewett said the programme aligns with MTN Ghana’s strategic focus on youth development and skills training.
“Ghana’s youthful population represents a powerful opportunity for national growth. By equipping young people with digital and coding skills, we are helping to unlock innovation, entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihoods,” he said.
Blewett noted that the initiative reflects MTN’s broader belief that technology should drive inclusive growth and create shared value across society.
The One Million Coders Programme is a cornerstone of Ghana’s digitalisation agenda and aims to build a strong pipeline of digital talent to support public-sector reforms, private-sector expansion and job creation.
The programme is expected to enhance productivity, stimulate innovation and improve Ghana’s competitiveness in the global digital marketplace.
MTN Ghana said the investment is aligned with MTN Group’s Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) priorities, particularly its focus on education, digital skills development and youth empowerment.
In addition to the One Million Coders Programme, MTN Ghana is partnering with the Government of Ghana to establish a US$25 million ICT Centre to serve as a hub for innovation, collaboration and advanced skills training.
The MTN Ghana Foundation also continues to support digital education initiatives nationwide, including the Ministry’s Girls in ICT programme.
Through these initiatives, MTN Ghana reaffirmed its commitment to leveraging technology and partnerships to drive digital transformation and support Ghana’s long-term socio-economic development.
