The MTN Ghana Foundation has officially handed over a newly expanded Accident and Emergency (A&E) Centre valued at GH¢15.4 million to the Ho Teaching Hospital, a development widely praised as a major boost to emergency healthcare delivery in Ghana’s Volta Region.
The facility was inaugurated on March 5, 2026, during a ceremony attended by government officials, healthcare leaders, and community representatives.

The James Gunu commended the Foundation for what he described as a transformational investment that strengthens critical healthcare services in the region.

According to him, improving access to quality healthcare remains essential to regional development, and the project reflects the government’s broader vision of ensuring equitable healthcare for all citizens.

He described the initiative as a remarkable philanthropic contribution that will significantly enhance emergency response capabilities in the region.

Speaking at the event, Adwoa Wiafe reaffirmed the Foundation’s commitment to accessible healthcare. She stressed that good health is a fundamental human right and emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in achieving it.
Wiafe explained that the newly expanded emergency block, designed to international standards, aims to reduce congestion, improve patient flow, and strengthen emergency response systems at the hospital.
The Chief Executive Officer of the hospital, Hintermann K. K. Mbroh, described the facility as a major advancement for emergency care.
He noted that the emergency department serves as the hospital’s frontline for urgent cases and that the improved infrastructure will enable faster and more effective life-saving interventions.
He also highlighted the importance of partnerships between the public and private sectors in strengthening Ghana’s healthcare system, praising the Foundation for its continued commitment to healthcare development.
Chairman of the hospital’s board, Delanyo Dovlo, stated that the project represents a significant milestone in the hospital’s quest to become a centre of excellence for clinical care and medical training.
Similarly, Lydia Aziato called for sustained collaboration among stakeholders to expand specialized services, including cardiac and maternal healthcare.
She noted that improved infrastructure enhances patient outcomes while strengthening the university’s mandate to train future healthcare professionals.
The expanded facility features a 30-bed emergency unit designed to handle trauma cases, sudden illnesses, and other life-threatening conditions.
It is equipped with modern medical technologies including cardiac monitors, portable ultrasound machines, defibrillators with pacemaker capabilities, electrocardiogram (ECG) machines, ventilators, and arterial blood gas analyzers.
Additional equipment installed at the centre includes haematology and biochemistry analyzers, blood storage refrigerators, infusion pumps, suction devices, crash carts, blood warmers, and examination lamps.
The centre also includes hospital beds, stretchers, and an elevator to ensure accessibility for critically ill patients and persons with disabilities.
Hospital management was encouraged to ensure proper maintenance of the facility to guarantee its long-term effectiveness in delivering quality emergency care.
Healthcare experts believe the upgraded centre will significantly improve survival rates for critically ill patients, reduce referrals to other hospitals, and strengthen emergency healthcare services across the Volta Region.
The MTN Ghana Foundation has implemented several development projects in the region over the years. Previous interventions include a 60-bed maternity and neonatal intensive care unit at Keta Municipal Hospital, upgrades to the Kpedze Health Centre, and a potable water system for the community of Kpeve.
Other dignitaries present at the ceremony included Samuel Koranteng, representatives of the Asogli Traditional Council, and members of the security services.
