Fresh from being named overall winner of the MTN Group 2025 Million Dollar Challenge, MTN Ghana is turning recognition into renewed focus on rural connectivity, digital access and customer-led innovation.

The accolade, presented at the MTN Global Leadership Gathering 2026, underscores what Chief Executive Officer Stephen Blewett describes as a year of disciplined execution and broad-based performance across the business.

Speaking at the first edition of the MTN Bright Conversation, Mr. Blewett said the award reflects a rare moment of across-the-board excellence.

“It’s the first time in my career… that I’ve actually sat back at the end of the year and said, I can’t think of a single department that hasn’t done well. That’s unusual,” he noted.

He credited teams spanning network operations, data innovation, customer experience and fintech particularly mobile money for driving the company’s standout performance in 2025.
“It’s always very pleasing to be the CEO of a very successful organisation. But the reality of the success of MTN Ghana is the engaged and passionate people we have here,” he added.
Expanding the Digital Footprint
Building on the momentum, MTN Ghana is prioritising deeper network rollout in 2026, with a focus on underserved communities.
“We want to work on the network. We need to roll out more sites… look at peri-urban areas… and even rural areas,” Mr. Blewett said, signalling a strategy aimed at closing connectivity gaps and broadening digital inclusion.
The company also plans to strengthen its digital transformation agenda by enhancing self-service options through the MyMTN platform, enabling customers to manage services more conveniently. Support for small businesses operating in the digital economy is also expected to scale up.
Stability Driving Long-Term Commitment
According to the CEO, Ghana’s improving macroeconomic conditions in 2025 have created the confidence needed for sustained capital investment.
“Any business wants a stable macro environment, and that’s what we got in 2025,” he said.
MTN Ghana intends to invest over $300 million this year, channelled into network infrastructure, quality upgrades and expansion projects.
Mr. Blewett stressed that such investments require long-term economic predictability.
“That investment’s not going to pay off in one year. So as a CEO we need to know there’s a stable economic future,” he explained, adding that exchange rate stability enhances the company’s purchasing power for telecom equipment.
As it looks ahead, MTN Ghana is positioning innovation as both a growth driver and a social enabler.
“I’m looking forward to a year of innovation… be leaders in driving innovation in Ghana, and making innovation something that benefits the lives of our customers,” Mr. Blewett declared.
With a Group-wide honour secured and a renewed expansion agenda underway, MTN Ghana is seeking to translate corporate success into broader digital access and customer impact nationwide.
