20 differently disabled persons have emerged among beneficiaries of the 2024 edition of MTN Ghana’s Bright Scholarship Awards programme.

They were part of the final 200 awardees who were selected out of the 400 individuals who were shortlisted for interview.

Their selection has come up as a credence to MTN Ghana’s commitment to diversity and inclusion, ensuring that all students have equal opportunities to succeed.

The last batch of the 200 beneficiaries were awarded the scholarship on Friday, 20th September, 2024 at the hall of the Law Faculty of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

Since the inception of the scholarship program in 2018, over 520 students have been awarded.

Though the initial target was awarding 100 scholarships each year, the number according to records surges yearly.

“When the scholarship commenced, the target was to award 100 scholarships each year.

However, last year, the number increased from 100 to 120 and today we are giving 200 students scholarship”, Mr. Robert Kuzoe, Senior Manager for MTN Ghana Foundation said in his address at the event.

He indicated that the programme places special emphasis on creating equal opportunities for all.

Mr. Robert Kuzoe underscored the MTN Bright Scholarship programme as an intervention instituted to ease the financial burden faced by continuing students in public tertiary institutions.

The scholarship covers tuition, stipends per semister, accomodation and a laptop to aid learning.

Speaking on behalf of the Ashanti regional Minister, the Municipal Chief Executive for Oforikrom, Hon. Abraham Antwi remarked that, MTN Ghana deserves commendation for its unwavering commitment to corporate social responsibility.

“Through initiatives like the Bright Scholarship, MTN is demonstrating that it is not only a leader in telecommunications but also a champion of education, youth development and national progress.

This aligns perfectly with the government’s vision of harnessing the potential of the private sector to support key areas such as education, health, and infrastructure development”.

“As a Regional Minister, I am particularly pleased to witness the impact of programs like this in the Ashanti region.

Our region is home to some of the brightest minds in the country, and I am confident that many of today’s awardees will go on to become leaders in their respective fields, contributing significantly to the development of the region and the nation as a whole”.
