MobileMoney LTD has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing financial inclusion and empowering women entrepreneurs through its participation in the Leveraging Digital Ecosystems for Increased MSMEs’ Productivity project, a strategic initiative led by the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) with support from the SDG Fund.

Under this initiative, MobileMoney LTD is among five selected Service Providers tasked with developing and scaling tailored digital financial services and financial literacy programs for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

The project places special emphasis on women and youth-led businesses operating in underserved communities across the Northern, Ashanti, and Western Regions.

The partnership seeks to address critical challenges that MSMEs face in accessing and effectively using digital financial services particularly in areas of payments, loans, savings, and insurance to unlock growth and economic resilience.

Speaking on the significance of the collaboration, Shaibu Haruna, Chief Executive Officer of MobileMoney LTD, emphasized that financial inclusion and women’s empowerment remain central to the company’s strategy.

“At MobileMoney LTD, we believe that empowering women and young entrepreneurs through digital finance creates lasting economic value. This partnership with UNCDF aligns with our mission to drive digital inclusion for every Ghanaian and our broader goal of supporting sustainable development through innovation,” Haruna stated.

He further explained that the project builds on the company’s long-term focus on supporting MSMEs and promoting inclusive growth.

“Our journey has moved beyond simply providing a platform for payments. The market research we have completed highlights the critical gaps MSMEs face in accessing tailored solutions for loans, savings, and insurance. We are now focused on developing and testing prototypes that will close these gaps, fostering sustainable business growth and ensuring that our contribution to the global SDG agenda has maximum national impact,” he added.

The initiative commenced with a series of capacity-building sessions facilitated by UNCDF, equipping the MobileMoney LTD team with Human-Centric Design tools and insights to guide the development of innovative solutions. Following extensive market research to understand the unique needs of MSMEs, the company is now advancing to the prototype development phase.

These prototypes aim to:

  • Expand access to digital financial services for excluded MSMEs,
  • Drive sustainable business growth among women and youth entrepreneurs,
  • Strengthen digital and financial literacy, and
  • Create long-term impact on Ghana’s economic development.

Over the years, MobileMoney LTD has consistently demonstrated leadership in women’s economic empowerment through several impactful initiatives.

These include the digitization of Village Savings and Loans Associations (VSLAs), provision of smartphones to market women to enhance business operations, and seed funding support for women agents to expand their enterprises.

These efforts underscore the company’s ongoing commitment to enabling women’s active participation in the digital economy and promoting inclusive, sustainable growth.
