As the announcement of the running mate for the NPP in the pending elections lingers in the minds of Ghanaians, speculation is rife about who will be chosen.
Many have concluded that the three NPP members in contention, all of whom serve as cabinet ministers and hold seats in parliament, are Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, representing the Bosomtwe Constituency and serving as the Minister for Education; Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (commonly known as Napo), representing the Manhyia South Constituency and serving as the Minister for Energy; and Bryan Acheampong, representing Abetifi Constituency and serving as the Minister for Food and Agriculture.
However, many Ghanaians believe that Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (commonly known as Napo) is the favorite among the three to be named the NPP running mate.
During Wednesday’s session in Parliament, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, MP for South Dayi, inadvertently sparked laughter with a comment he made relating to power outages in the country.
“Mr. Speaker, I didn’t hear what the running mate said—oh, sorry, what the Minister for Energy said,” Dafeamekpor remarked.
The House erupted in laughter following this supposed slip of the tongue.
In response, the Minister of Energy, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, stated, “Mr. Speaker, I am under your care. The questioner is seriously attempting to drag me into issues that are not related to the question asked, and I shudder to even want to offer an answer.”
