The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China and the Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana organized Chinese Language Programme at the Foreign Service Institute.

The initiative was designed to equip Ghanaian officials with basic proficiency in Mandarin to build a linguistic bridge to enhance communication with Chinese counterparts and facilitate diplomatic exchanges in order to strengthen the bilateral relations between the two countries.

About eighty (80) participants drawn from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs; Labour, Jobs and Employment; Lands and Natural Resources; Trade, Agribusiness and Industry; the Public Service Commission, Office of the Head of Civil Service and Ghana Investment Promotion Centre participated in the programme which was held for 3 months.

The programme is an investment in the professional development of officials taking into consideration the importance of language and cultural understanding in diplomacy. China is one of Ghana’s key partners in trade, infrastructure, investment, and cultural exchange, it is, therefore, essential that Officials from key institutions develop linguistic and cultural competence to foster mutual respect and smoother negotiations, strengthen people-to-people ties and pave way for advance cooperation and enhanced cultural exchanges between Ghana and China.

The Foreign Service Institute and the Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana through the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China looks forward to building on this foundation to open new avenues for collaboration and cultural exchange.
