The Mayor of Accra, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, has signed a charter to officially join the Ocean Rise and Coastal Resilience Coalition for Cities and Regions, a global platform designed to support coastal adaptation and safeguard urban communities against the growing threat of climate change.

The Ocean Rise and Coastal Resilience Coalition is a voluntary global alliance that enables coastal cities and regions to lead on adaptation by providing access to scientific expertise, indigenous knowledge, innovative data tools, and sustainable development strategies.

While membership is free of charge and does not impose any legal obligations, cities must commit to learning, sharing best practices, regulating coastal activity, and implementing tangible adaptation projects.

Mayor Kpakpo Allotey signed the charter on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, during a brief ceremony to strengthen cooperation between the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) and the French government in the areas of climate resilience, urban sanitation, and heritage preservation.
