The Mayor of Accra, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, has inspected the completed repair works on a section of Kwame Nkrumah Avenue in the Central Business District (CBD), which was recently closed temporarily to allow for urgent maintenance.
Speaking during a working visit to the site on Tuesday, the Mayor told journalists that the intervention became necessary after he observed severe deterioration of the road surface during his routine decongestion exercises in the city.

He explained that the stretch had developed significant potholes, created safety hazards, and slowed traffic movement along one of the busiest corridors in the capital.

“I discovered during my usual visits that this section had developed potholes, so we took the decision to quickly smoothen the surface to ease traffic congestion on the stretch,” he stated.
According to the Mayor, the Assembly also took advantage of the repair period to carry out additional works to improve sanitation and safety in the area.
These, he said include the desilting of choked drains to prevent flooding and replacement of stolen concrete slabs covering the drains with temporary wooden ones to protect pedestrians and motorists.
