A high-ranking delegation of chiefs and elders from the Manhyia Palace, acting on behalf of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, has formally informed Ghana’s former President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, of the passing of the 14th Queen Mother of the Asante Kingdom, Nana Konadu Yiadom III.

The visit, which took place on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, was conducted in line with Asante royal tradition, underscoring the strong cultural protocols surrounding the death of a paramount royal figure. The gesture also highlighted the personal and ancestral ties between the former president and the Asante royal family, as both he and the late Queen Mother are members of the Oyoko clan.

In a statement shared via his official Facebook page, Akufo-Addo expressed deep appreciation for the delegation’s visit and shared heartfelt reflections on the life of Nana Konadu Yiadom III.

“The late Asantehemaa was an adorable queen of grace and wisdom, who was fully committed to the values and traditions of the great Asante kingdom,” he wrote, recalling her eight-year reign and their personal friendship.
He noted that during his tenure and beyond, he never missed the opportunity to visit the Asantehemaa whenever he was in Kumasi, describing their bond as “good and fruitful.”

Beyond a personal loss, the former president acknowledged the cultural significance of her passing and extended his sympathies to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and the wider Asanteman.
“I grieve with Otumfuo the Asantehene and Asanteman on such a sad loss, and pray that her venerable soul receives peaceful rest in the Bosom of the Almighty,” he stated, closing with a solemn prayer for eternal reunion in the afterlife.
The visit and tribute underscore the enduring importance of tradition, respect, and kinship in Ghana’s chieftaincy and political landscape, particularly in moments of national and cultural mourning.
