Ghana’s leadership in digital transformation and cybersecurity has gained renewed international attention as Hon. Samuel Nartey George, Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, represented former President John Dramani Mahama at the United Nations Convention Against Cybercrime signing ceremony and high-level conference held in Hanoi, Vietnam.

In a statement posted on his official Facebook page, Hon. George described his participation as both “a privilege and an honour,” underscoring Ghana’s commitment to shaping a safer global digital environment.

“This marks the boldest step yet in our global fight against cybercrime and the use of cyberspace by malicious actors to attack individuals, institutions, and nations,” he stated.

The Minister noted that his Ministry will begin the formal process of presenting the Convention to Parliament for ratification in 2026, signaling the Mahama administration’s long-term vision of embedding strong international standards into Ghana’s national cybersecurity framework.

Political analysts say the move reflects Ghana’s determination to take an active role in global digital governance while reinforcing Mahama’s broader vision of a secure, inclusive, and innovative digital economy.

The UN Convention Against Cybercrime, adopted to strengthen international collaboration in tackling online threats, is widely seen as a milestone in creating a coordinated global defense against cyberattacks and data misuse.

Hon. Sam George ended his message with his signature patriotic tone: “For God and Country.”
