The Member of Parliament for Kwadaso and former Deputy Minister for Education (TVET), Hon. Prof. Kingsley Nyarko, has paid a courtesy visit to the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Eric Assibey, in the company of departmental heads and other key officials of the municipality.

The visit had a dual purpose: to officially welcome Hon. Assibey into his new role and to brief him and the municipal directors on the MPβs development plans, while also providing updates on ongoing projects within Kwadaso.

Strengthening Collaboration for Development

In his address, Prof. Nyarko described Hon. Assibey as a long-standing friend and praised his capabilities. He encouraged the new MCE to unify the staff, avoid partisan distractions, and prioritize collaboration with the MPβs office to ensure the progress of Kwadaso. Reaffirming his commitment, Prof. Nyarko reminded the assembly of his role as an ex-officio member and pledged his continuous support.

Key Issues Addressed During the Visit

1. Efficient Resource Utilization
Prof. Nyarko underscored the need for close cooperation between offices to avoid project duplication and ensure that limited resources are deployed effectively.
2. Education Sector Improvement
Referring to a recent report from the Municipal Education Directorate, the MP acknowledged challenges facing the education sector. He assured stakeholders that all stalled GETFund projects would soon be revisited by contractors to resume work.
3. Kwadaso Onion Market
He clarified that the land designated for the onion market belongs to the municipality and should remain free from political interference. He stressed that relocating traders was in the interest of local development and pledged full support for the Assemblyβs efforts to prevent reoccupation.
4. Road Infrastructure Projects
Prof. Nyarko provided updates on stalled road projects in Tanoso, Nwamase, Pokukrom, Kwadaso North, and Denkyemuoso. He reported that Contractor Attachy would soon begin asphalting the Power Chapel road, with Tanoso next in line. Other contractors are also prepared to resume work once funding is released.
5. Astroturf Initiatives
Providing progress reports on two major Astroturf projects in Kwadaso Beposo and Tanoso, the MP announced that all issues delaying the Beposo project have been resolved. Of the 98 stalled Astroturfs nationwide, only eight are now prioritized for completionβincluding three from the Ashanti Region: Kwadaso, Asawase, and Fomena. While financial constraints remain, Prof. Nyarko pledged to work on their resolution and announced plans to formally introduce the contractors to the Assembly. He added that the Tanoso project, captured in the Common Fund formula, would also resume once funds are available.
Support for Fallen Heroes
In response to a request from the Assembly, Prof. Nyarko donated GHS 10,000 toward the funeral rites of the eight state officials who tragically lost their lives in the recent Ghana Air Force Z-9 helicopter crash. The MP, known for maintaining strong cross-party relationshipsβincluding with Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammedβwas lauded for his respectful gesture.
MCE Expresses Gratitude and Commitment
Hon. Eric Assibey expressed deep appreciation for the visit, describing it as uplifting and indicative of political maturity. He praised the competence of the municipal staff and noted that, despite operating on a modest budget, Kwadaso Municipality was named Best Municipality in the Ashanti Region and ranked second nationwide for financial accountability in 2024. He assured that he would maintain the integrity of the workforce and collaborate fully with the MP to leave a lasting legacy of development.
Remarks from Assembly Leadership
Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Francis Adu-Boateng, commended Prof. Nyarko for his contribution to the funeral rites and for fostering a spirit of unity and cooperation. He highlighted the rarity of such harmony between leaders from different political affiliations, describing the dayβs engagement as βpure class.β
