Over 70 Queen Mothers from the Kejetia and Central Market, led by Nana Yaa Fowaa (Oforiwaa), Queen of the Yam Market, paid a courtesy call on the Mayor of Kumasi, Hon. Richard Ofori-Agyeman Boadi.

The visit was to congratulate the Mayor on his appointment and to express their readiness to collaborate with him in promoting the interests of Asanteman.

In his remarks, Richard Kwasi Ofori Boadi Agyemang expressed heartfelt gratitude and reaffirmed his commitment to deepening the partnership between the city administration and market leadership.

On the Kumasi City Market Ltd. (KCML), the Mayor announced progress in clearing the GHS 3 million ECG utility debt—now reduced to GHS 1.5 million—with a payment plan in place. He encouraged all traders to stay up to date with their bills, taxes, and levies to ensure continued development and fulfill obligations to the state.

To improve market conditions, he revealed the installation of three water tanks at the kitchen facility and announced plans for securing insurance for the market under the new board.

Again, under his guidance three out of the four generators have been repaired and are currently functioning and supporting the facility.

He also assured the delegation that challenges like obstructed routes and unauthorized containers will be addressed for better accessibility and safety.

Hon. Boadi concluded by reaffirming H.E. John Dramani Mahama’s strong commitment to completing Phase II of the market project—a transformative step to reduce congestion, stimulate economic growth, and restore investor confidence in Kumasi.
